Herod and Peter - Acts 12
Herod, the King | Peter, the Prophet | |
What motivated each of them? | Herod was motivated by Power. He wanted the people to fear him and listen to him. Herod was also motivated by Popularity, when he saw that the Jews were pleased that he took James life he then wanted to take Peters life to gain more popularity with the Jews. | Peter was motivated by the Love of God. He prayed without ceasing for the people of the church even while imprisoned. Peter was also motivated by Humility and Faith, he thought he was having a vision as the angel escorted him out of prison and was astonished when he actually had been delivered from the hand of Herod. |
How did they deal with others? | Herod’s dealing with others were very angry, unfair, and rash. He had the guards that were on watch while Peter escaped be put to death. | Peter’s dealing with other were just and loving. When his friends did not believe that he was really at the gate he just continued to knock and wait patiently. After he saw them he left straightway to do God’s work again. |
How did God deal with them? | God dealt with Herod very harshly. God smote Herod because he "gave not the glory unto God" but unto himself. Herod was eaten by worms and gave up the ghost. | God’s dealing with Peter were very tender. He comforted him and helped him. He delivered him from prison by an angel. Afterwards, He buoyed him up so that Peter could continue in the work of the Lord. |
